Stress Relief

It seems that I have a new venture every week, and my loved ones are all very tired of keeping up with all my ideas. I have had a lot of stress in my life and I guess all my activities are a way for me to forget about them, even for a small time. This way I can be ready for my children when they need me. So I encourage all to get a hobby or do something that will help you to focus on yourself.

My new passion is yoga. I absolutely love it! I have not been practicing for very long, sure I have taken yoga classes in the past and a lot of dance classes incorporate yoga in their warm-ups, but lately I have been trying to practice yoga regularly.

There are many reasons I have decided to lean toward the yoga approach. First, I have found the great stress relief that comes from yoga. I know everyone has stress, therefore everyone needs some type of relief. Holding on to stress can cause many problems physically, mentally and emotionally. Think about your life and look for anything that might be out of balance. Some of the symptoms I experienced was: back pain, joint pain, muscle pain, anxiety, depression, irritability, headaches, and insomnia. I figured these things were normal, (my mom and sister both have fibromyalgia), and I would just have to deal with them for the rest of my life. This was not the case. Luckily, I took my concerns to Nancy Foster, at Comprehensive Psychological. She helped me discover that my hormones were out of balance and instructed me to reduce my stress as much as possible. To help with hormone balance, you should talk to Tara Archer with Arbonne International. They have a great product that will help make a huge difference. As for my stress, I have been able to receive help for my Autistic son, find hobbies as an outlet, and yoga!

Stress can come from anywhere. Mostly we think of our jobs or kids, but many other factors can cause stress that we usually don't think about. Definitely look into other causes of stress to see if you can change your environment and help you feel better.

Yoga has been a huge help for me. I just received my yoga certification from Fitour and I feel like I have learned tons to improve my yoga practice in just a short weekend. I feel great! I want to help others feel better because I have been there and it is very hard to get through a day. Now I have time for myself, I am happier and my kids are no longer a huge stress in my life. We can spend more quality time together. If you are interested in learning more about the benefits of yoga, Yoga Journal is a great resource.

I am just learning and would love some pointers and advice. Please help me make the most of my yoga practice, it is extremely important to me. Thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts. I appreciate your support!

Thriller

Winner of Best in State in Dance 2006, 2007 and 2008 and overall winner in the Arts and Entertainment category 2007, Odyssey Dance Theatre is excited to bring its popular Halloween Spectacular Thriller to several locations in Utah. “This show has become a phenomenon!” says Artistic Director Derryl Yeager. “Now in its eleventh year, it has grown tremendously in popularity, and we are busy performing the show throughout the entire month! This year we are performing in five locations in Utah; we’ve had to hire two separate casts for the second year in a row to fill the amazing demand, and we had an unprecedented number of children audition (over 200) to be a part of our Halloween hit.

One company’s Thriller tour will begin at Weber State in Ogden before opening a 19-performance run at Kingsbury Hall. The other company will perform in Logan and Provo and then move into residence at Tuacahn in St. George where, last year, all six shows were sold out, so a seventh has been added.

This year’s show will have all of the favorite pieces from the past - Thriller, The Curse of the Mummy, Dem Bones, Frankenstein, Jason Jam, Salem’s Mass, The Lost Boys, and the River of Blood Dance - plus a few new surprises. Get your tickets early, because most of the performances sold out last year! This show has it all - frights, amazement, scares and lots of laughs. Come and join this spectacular Halloween tradition and see what everyone is talking about - Odyssey Dance Theatre’s Thriller!

“Odyssey’s production of “Thriller'' was truly a thrill for the audience, which was at times breathless with laughter, at times fearful and amazed, but always totally entertained. The pieces were excitingly choreographed and energetically performed...”

- Margaret Godfrey - Salt Lake Tribune

“Odyssey’s “Thriller”..a delightful "Danse Macabre"....As for humor, there were bucket-loads. Laughs abounded during a "Romeo & Juliet"-inspired "Frankenstein & Frankenstein" and "Jason Jam," a work that used a lot of percussive dancing, a la "Stomp," that spotlighted three "Friday the 13th" villains dancing with ice picks, machetes and, of all things, chain saws. The whole idea was cool...”

Odyssey in Beijing

Odyssey's trip to Beijing was phenomenal on so many different levels that it's hard to know where to begin.

From the moment our prestigious New York Booking Agents Jodi Kaplan & Associates invited Odyssey to perform in Beijing, coinciding with the Olympics, I knew it was something we must do. My immediate reaction was What a great way to connect culturally with the Chinese people through our universal language of dance! It was that and so much more.

It was a rough road getting there -- harder than any of us could have imagined. Funding was minimal, and we had to keep scaling back on the number of dancers and staff who could go, until we ended up with just seven dancers and me, to accommodate the limited budget.

Funding may have been scarce, but media coverage has been amazing—starting with ABC 4’s report before we left Salt Lake City (see the video on our website at www.odysseydance.com). There were reports on NPR and KUER, and KSL’s Amanda Butterfield did a live report on Odyssey from Beijing. There were articles in the Salt Lake Tribune and a feature story on the cover of the Deseret News A&E section (which we’ve included below). There’s international and national press, as well, including an interview on China Radio International. We were joined on the trip by DANCE MAGAZINE’s Assistant Editor Emily Macel, who said, “I had such an amazing time, and it was a pleasure to witness your dancers onstage and offstage. Looking through the photos I keep thinking What a great group of talented dancers!" The article will appear in their January or February 2009 issue.

The dancers got to take a wonderful class, taught by one of the directors of the Beijing Modern Dance Company. The dancers loved it, and it was a cool bonding moment between dancers. At the end of class, the teacher said her hope is that someday we can get the whole world dancing.... what a great thought and sentiment!

We have been invited to return to perform in China this December (a paying gig this time)!

In this time of such political strife and controversy, it was so important to get to the people, meet the people, show them what we do and connect with them on a purely emotional and human level. If we could all do that a little more, we’d be well on our way to world peace!

Thank you for your interest and support and best wishes,

Derryl

Arbonne International

As dancers, we need to take care of ourselves. Who has the time to get sick?! We put our bodies at risk every day and it is so helpful to know a little about how supplements will affect us. We are strong, healthy and energized dancers and we are going to make sure we can dance every day!

I first heard about this company on line where I had run into this amazing woman who is an absolute inspiration to me. Her name is Tara and she has helped me so much in many ways. She isn't a "salesman", she really and sincerely just wants to help you feel the best you can. Tara is so knowledgeable about what products will help you no matter what your issues might be. She shows such love and concern and helps you feel so comfortable.

I had symptoms that have last years and Tara helped me understand which products would help me. I feel absolutely wonderful and I am very excited to try all the products Arbonne International has to offer! I will be referring to these products a lot on this blog; I am addicted!

If you have any concerns or just want the best for your body, please ask Tara for her help. I promise you will be in good hands!
